Skype TX Case Studies

Kinetic Pixel are experts with Skype TX.  We’ve had a vast amount of experience with this cutting edge platform, making us the best people in the UK to help integrate it into your technical workflow and get the highest quality content from contributors on any platform, be it mobile, PC, tablets or smart TVs.  All your contributors need are a Skype account and any device that runs Skype, and we can turn that into broadcast standard audio and video using the Skype TX technology and supporting equipment. If you’re contributors aren’t confident with the technology, we can send a technician with the relevant equipment to support the contributor’s end of the call too.  Below are a few of our recent Skype TX case studies.

Text Santa (ITV Productions)

For Phillip Schofield’s challenge where he presented 24 hours of live TV, ITV Productions wanted to use Skype TX to bring in contributors and celebrities to offer support for his challenge and appeal for donations to ITV’s Text Santa charity.    Kinetic Pixel supplied and managed four channels of Skype TX, running live around the clock, for use as full-frame sources during the show.   Running off ITV’s corporate network infrastructure ensured that we could offer the highest quality video and audio from contributors around the world, including calls from Phillip Schofield’s children, Frank Lampard, Holly Willoughby and an extended call to Ant and Dec live from the “I’m a Celebrity….” compound in Australia.  During the course of the telethon, our technicians handled over 40 calls from desktop, mobile and tablet devices, all with high quality video and audio.

 Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution (JamieOliver.com)

Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution Day was a campaign to get kids cooking, and aware of healthier eating.  KPX rolled out two channels of Skype TX so that Jamie could talk to schools around the country without the production incurring the expense of an OB crew in each location.  KPX were at the outside broadcast from City Hall, London, supplying technical crew and equipment enabling the Skype calls to be ingested straight into the switcher and cut to air with no extra hardware such as scan converters, downscalers or embedders.

S4C’s Scottish Referendum Coverage (BBC Wales)

S4C’s coverage of the Scottish Referendum gave us the opportunity to use Skype TX in some more unique ways.  The production required that journalists in Scotland could refer to the statistics shown by graphics during their reports.  The solution was to supply the journalists with iPads, allowing them to dial in to our Skype TX machines which were configured to automatically answer their call and send the full-frame graphics straight to their iPad, at high quality and with minimal delay.

The production used a further two channels to gather opinion from the viewers.  A call to action encouraged viewers to Skype in and give their views on the campaign.  The callers were able to record a short video that was ingested into EVS and used later in the show as part of packages and also made available on the red-button service.
