Motion Graphics Developer

Kinetic Pixel are a team of broadcast technology experts specialising in supplying real-time graphics, game technology and audience interaction systems for Quiz Shows and Light Entertainment. If you watch TV you’ll know at least some of our shows; Who Wants to be a Millionaire?, Pointless, Tenable, Countdown, A League Of Their Own, Only Connect and The Masked Singer, to name just a few.

We’re the glue that holds these shows together. It’s our technology that tracks the scores, presents the questions graphics, sounds the buzzers and fires the time up lighting effects!

We’re currently looking for a talented and versatile Motion Graphics Developer to join our team. The right candidate will have robust commercial experience with Unity and strong design and development skills. You should also show a keen interest in learning new tools and techniques and have the desire to consistently deliver high quality designs and animations to help bring some of the world’s biggest Light Entertainment and Quiz Shows to life.

Responsibilities and Description of Role

Your day to day role would involve implementing design requirements using 3D animation and rendering tools.  You will be working closely with our project managers, software developers and engineers to help deliver our clients’ creative vision.

You’ll need to be prepared to travel, and sometimes work unusual hours – TV doesn’t always get made between 9 to 5 Monday to Friday.  We work in locations across the UK and the world, from Birmingham to the Bahamas, so a full UK driving licence and a valid passport are essential.

  • Cross-training to Ventuz, our primary graphics authoring and rendering suite.
  • Leading the implementation of Unity projects and providing training and mentoring to other developers.
  • Deriving and implementing consistent animation design and layouts from limited design references, mood boards or “kit of parts”.
  • Creating reactive animations and sequences using 3D animation and rendering tools.
  • Fulfilling technical requirements by enabling control and integration with automation software that will run animation triggers and modify 3D layouts in real-time.

In return for this, we can offer comprehensive training and opportunities for learning and development, a competitive salary, a minimum of 28 days holiday (including Bank Holidays) and the chance to work with many different cutting edge technology solutions.  You’ll be joining an exciting and agile organisation, and there are opportunities to grow the role as the company grows.

  • Degree or higher education equivalent in Motion Graphics, Media Technology, Games Development, ICT or similar.
  • Commercial experience developing and deploying applications and games using Unity and C# for Windows and Mobile platforms.
  • Demonstrable experience of scene composition, lighting, materials and textures to create layouts and animation design that meet evolving client specifications.
  • Experience with bitmap and vector graphic design tools such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well within a team.
  • Experience of working to deadlines while following established processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Keen attention to detail. Diligent and accurate reporting of work tasks.
  • You’ll also need a positive attitude, the willingness to give anything a go, and the determination to make it work. The show must go on!

Desirable Skills

  • A good understanding of computer science and programming concepts such as socket communications, data structures and serialisation.
  • Experience or exposure to professional presentation and broadcast graphics systems such as Ventuz, VizRT, Wasp3D, CasparCG or Notch.
  • Practical experience of 3D modelling and animation tools such as Maya, Blender, Cinema4D or 3DS Max.
  • An understanding or exposure to the concepts behind AR and VR tracking systems.
  • An active interest or basic understanding of video and audio engineering technology or software.
  • A high level understanding of video encoding, codecs and file formats.
