I.T. Support Technician

Kinetic Pixel are a broadcast technology company specialising in supplying real-time graphics, studio automation and audience interaction systems for Television and Live events.  If you’ve got a TV you’ll know at least some of our shows; Who Wants to be a Millionaire?, Pointless, A League Of Their Own, Only Connect and Countdown, to name just a few.

We’re the glue that holds these shows together. It’s our technology behind the scenes that tracks the scores, shows the questions, sounds the buzzers and fires the time up klaxons!

I.T. SUPPORT ASSISTANT

We are currently looking for an I.T. Support Assistant to join our growing team. You’ll need to be an adaptable independent thinker who has some experience in an I.T role and ideally an interest in broadcast engineering technology. You’ll need to be ready to learn on the job and be keen to understand how to apply your existing skills to help us bring some of the world’s biggest Light Entertainment and Game Shows to life.

Responsibilities and Description of Role

You will learn to comprehend complex I.T requirements and propose solutions while working closely with our technicians, engineers, project managers and software developers to help deliver our clients’ creative vision.  This role is primarily office based, but you should be prepared to travel, and sometimes work unusual hours – TV doesn’t always get made between 9 to 5 Monday to Friday, and our clients are based around the world, from Birmingham to the Bahamas.

Your responsibilities will include;

  • Installing and configuring computer systems,
  • Diagnosing and fixing hardware and software faults with I.T. hardware, software and professional A/V equipment.
  • Solving technical and applications problems, either over the phone or in person.
  • Monitoring and maintenance of computer systems, servers, I.T. infrastructure, facilities and networks.
  • Troubleshooting system and network problems, diagnosing and solving hardware or software faults, replacing parts or updating systems as required
  • Providing support, including procedural documentation and relevant reports
  • Following diagrams and written instructions to repair a fault or set up a system
  • Prioritising and managing many open cases at one time
  • Managing inventories and allocation of equipment on a project and need basis
  • Maintaining system documentation and diagrams

Qualifications/Experience

  • Comprehensive I.T. skills including;
    • Installing and configuring Microsoft Windows operating systems
    • PC hardware specification and assembly 
    • Network and router configuration.
    • Device driver management and troubleshooting
    • VPN configuration and management
  • Good GCSE, A-level or BTEC equivalent qualifications that must include Mathematics, English and a STEM subject.
  • Experience of working to deadlines while following established processes. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well within a team.
  • Keen attention to detail. Diligent and accurate reporting of work tasks.

Desirable Skills

  • User account management using G Suite and Office 365.
  • Exposure to inventory control and stock management systems.
  • Configuration of Network Storage devices such as FreeNAS.
  • Experience of VoIP telephony systems.
  • An interest in cloud computing platforms such as AWS and Azure.
  • Practical electronics skills such as soldering, electronic circuit assembly and cable making.
  • An active interest and basic understanding of video and audio engineering technology or software.

The Operations Manager.

Salary Range

£17,000 to £22,500 p/a owing to experience, plus pension and other benefits.

Location of work

Kinetic Pixel are based in South Wales, just 8 miles from Cardiff. Our office is 10 minutes’ walk from Caerphilly Interchange which has good transport links to the entire South East Wales region.

Hours of work

37.5 hours a week, typically 9:00AM-5:30PM when office based, but site work will require flexibility depending on the production schedule and workload.
