Junior Systems Technician

Kinetic Pixel are a broadcast technology provider specialising is supplying real-time graphics, studio automation and audience interaction systems for Television and Live events. If you watch TV you’ll know at least some of our shows; Who Wants to be a Millionaire?, Pointless, Tenable, Countdown, A League Of Their Own, Only Connect and Fifteen To One, to name just a few.

We’re the glue that holds these shows together. It’s our technology behind the scenes that tracks the scores, shows the questions, sounds the buzzers and fires the time up klaxons!


We are currently looking for an enthusiastic and versatile Junior Systems Technician to join our growing team. You’ll need to be adaptable, a fast learner and show a keen interest in broadcast, computing and video engineering technologies and be ready to learn how to apply these skills to bring some of the world’s biggest Light Entertainment and Game Shows to life.

Responsibilities and Description of Role

This is an entry-level role for a graduate or school leaver with some previous experience in a workplace.  You will learn to comprehend complex issues and propose solutions, and work closely with project managers, software developers, animators and engineers to help deliver our clients’ creative vision.  

You’ll need to be prepared to travel, and sometimes work unusual hours – TV doesn’t always get made between 9 to 5 Monday to Friday.  We work in locations across the UK and the world, from Birmingham to the Bahamas, so a full UK driving licence and a valid passport are essential.   

Your responsibilities will include;

  • Testing, configuring and maintaining computer and video equipment according to project priorities.
  • Performing tests and evaluations on new software and hardware.
  • Tracking of inventory and equipment levels to identify shortfalls and discrepancies across multiple projects.
  • Following best practice for the use, configuration and maintenance of equipment stock.
  • Attending TV Studios and Outside Broadcasts in the UK, and sometimes internationally, to assist with the installation, configuration and support of broadcast systems prior to and during the production schedule.
  • Creating and managing layoffs of graphics sequences to support post-production requirements of delivered projects.

  • Good GCSE, A-level or BTEC equivalent qualifications that must include Mathematics, English and a STEM subject.
  • Experience of working to deadlines while following established processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well within a team.
  • Keen attention to detail. Diligent and accurate reporting of work tasks.
  • Good problem-solving skills with the ability to make decisions under pressure.
  • Comprehensive I.T. skills including installing and configuring Microsoft Windows operating systems, PC hardware specification and assembly and network and router configuration.

Desirable Skills

  • An active interest and basic understanding of video and audio engineering technology or software.
  • PC device driver management, especially video card drivers, multi-screen GPU configuration, colour space, resolution and refresh rate management.
  • Practical electronics skills such as soldering, electronic circuit assembly and cable making.
  • Voluntary or professional experience as a technician or stage assistant in a band, theatre or studio environment

The Operations Manager.

Salary Range

£17,000 to £20,000 p/a owing to experience, plus pension and other benefits.

Location of work

Kinetic Pixel are based in the South Wales valleys, just 8 miles from Cardiff. Our office is 10 minutes’ walk from Caerphilly Interchange which has good transport links to the entire South East Wales region.

Hours of work

37.5 hours a week, typically 9:00AM-5:30PM when office based, but site work requires flexibility and availability at weekends and evenings depending on the production schedule and workload.
